Today is the day we introduce you to our Design Team Member, Tilla Hollingworth……….Tilla is an avid scrapbooker, and here is something about her.
Hi there ! My name is Tilla and I have been scrapbooking since 2007. I am an interior designer in the mornings, mom to two very busy kids in the afternoons and wife to a lovely husband, who does not understand my addiction to scrapbooking, but tolerates it !
Designer, homemaker, crafter and prettiness junkie probably describes me best – not necessarily in that order !
I love to scrapbook our family life and holidays – we enjoy traveling and this year we hope to visit 4 different African countries before Christmas ! Both myself, my husband and increasingly the kids are keen photographers, so we always end up with stacks of photos and there is always plenty of material to work with.
I like to use multiple photos on my layouts and keep things relatively simple, so that my layouts can come together quickly. I go to a scrap class at least once a month, but most of my scrapping is done at home – early morning on the weekend is the best !
I recently started a blog so that I could participate in online challenges – and this led me to Scrapbooking Studio JBay thru Scrap Africa’s Sketch blog. I am looking forward to being a part of this exciting new Design Team and can’t wait to see what all these talented ladies are going to inspire us with !

Here is the first layout Tilla created for us. She used the great Happy Days collection by Echo Park.
For this layout I chose an interesting Black & White photo a friend took of my children – he used an old fashioned camera and large sheets of photo paper, so they had to keep really still for the time of the exposure – not something that happens very often !
I loved all the black, red & turqois elements in this kit – and only added in a graph paper as a background.
Once I selected the papers to use, I roughly placed my elements on the page – to create more interest to the background, I used the stamp included in the kit, with some charcoal ink, to stamp several areas on the page.
To create the large chevron element on my page, I measured a strip of paper 4 x 20cm and marked it as shown – creating a grid of 2cm blocks.
Next I cut alternating slits into the paper to the centre line. Then I folded the opposite corners towards the centre line, creating a chevron with dimension.
For my journaling, I measured the areas that will be visible on the journaling cards & printed my text to fit into that space.
I also included some of the rub ons in the kit in my journaling – yes, this takes some planning !
I finished the page off with lots of sticker border strips, chipboard elements as well as the chipboard title included in the kit, which I inked with 3 colours to create an ombre effect.
This page has a very strong diagonal element from the top left to bottom right hand corner, so most of my embellishments follow this line.
As there is so much journaling on this page, it forms the base line for everything else to sit on. In effect there are also 2 titles on the page – one reading ‘You & Me Today’ and the other ‘Lucky to have each other’
Which I hope my children will take to heart !
We hope you enjoyed this layout by Tilla – watch this space for more Tilla goodness to follow this January!!!
