Fun Fair

Gail did this stunning page with the GCD Fun House collection. The photos of her granddaughter, Paige, were perfect for these papers. Gail used a total of 10 photos on this layout, while still showing off the beautiful detail on the paper. She also did not use any plain cardstock - this double page layout was done using only 3 sheets of patterned paper, embellishments cut by hand and using her big shot and a punch. Alll from the same paper, some pearls and a very old chipboard alphabet given new life with distress ink and stickles! The total page cost R24 in new stock ( the papers) , and she just used what she had in her stash to dress it up. So who says Scrapbooking has to be expensive?

A close up of the dressed up alphabet, rosette and flourish. So, use what you already have. With all the stunning new papers on the market today, we are really moving away from overpriced embellishments, and focusing more on using the papers to the utmost and investing in tools that can enhance your scrapping. Everything used on this layout is available at Scrapbook Studio Jeffreys Bay. Except, that is, for the chipboard alphabet!!! Enjoy your day!

Ella Blue

Ella Blue by GCD Studios arrived at the shop last week. WOW. That is all we can say. A Vintage collection like none we had seen before. Of course we had to do a layout to show it off!!

I used Tara for the background. I placed a large Doily over the page, and sprayed it with a home made mist, made up of Walnut Stain Distress reinker and water. I removed the Doily and dried it with my Heatgun. These papers have a wonderful linen texture, so they react quite well to water and heat. Very little, if any buckling. I then cut the big rose from Savannah, and dressed it up with some True Blue, Cinnamon and Waterfall Stickles. I cut two strips from Grace and layered it at the bottom of the page with some Tim Holtz Coredinations cardstock inbetween. Added a nice Blue ribbon and a stunning shimmer brown ribbon on top of that. Next I took a title tag from Authentique and distressed it, adding Walnut Stain ink to the edges. I then added a sentence from the Authentique Diction sticker sheet as my journaling. Made a ribbon with my Enmarc Bow Master and added a VERY old MM brad.

I then took the big butterfly from the Celebr8 range (distributed by The Wholesaler - did you know they have an online shooping facility?)and covered it with Cloudy Blue Paint Dabber. I then took Blue Glass Embossing powder and randomly added it to the butterfly. I used my heatgun to melt it. I then took some Espresso Alcohol ink, and dabbed it randomly all over the butterfly. Added some Distress Vintage Photo Stickles to some areas afterwards, and let it dry. For the title I used really cheap W & M chipboard letters, carefully embossed with Copper UTEE and Blue Glass. I just wanted a little bit of the Blue Glass to come through, and this took a little bit of time. But the end result is worth it!! I did the same with the swirl at the top of the butterfly and under the tag. I just matted the photo 3 times on cardstock, distressing the edges roughly with my Tim Holtz Tonic Distresser. I find his works the best if you are working with smaller pieces of paper and also thinner paper. The light cardstock is actually a Colormates Light Fairy Tale Pink! And there you have it!! We have all 12 papers in the range, selling only at R8! The papers are all double sided. Any ideas of what you would create with this range? Watch this space - we will have another layout soon - just to show you that you don't just have to do Vintage layouts! All products used are available at Scrapbook Studio Jeffreys Bay

Women's Day 2011

So, what do 6 ladies in the Eastern Cape do on Women's Day? They BLEND!!! LOL!! Yes, we had 6 ladies doing a Tim Holtz mini album at the shop on Women's Day, 9 August.

Here we are doing a technique with Distress inks and Perfect Pearls creating your own background paper

The magic of Distress Crackle paint!!!

Kraft Glassine - all Pearled, wrinkled, stamped, distressed and die cut - ready to make a spectacular, one of a kind flower!

Julie's inky fingers....."how am I going to get my fingers clean??" Cheap sjampoo, Julie, as per Mr Holtz!

Here is what the album looked like after all the pages were covered using Gel Medium, some of Tim's Lost and Found, Kraft Resist and Dictionary paper. The pegs - after having made a few of these albums, I realised you needed something to just make sure the corners stay put!! Tada!!
PLEASE note the cheesecake..................................

Magda and Nicki having a really good time!! It was their first blending session and they really blended away!!

Gloved Gail............always such a sport! Despite her back operation blending STRONGLY!!!

Nicky and Julie seriously covering their books. You will not believe how meticulous they tore the dictionary paper!! ( by the way, they were excellent students!!)

And Leeanne - as usual I am sure she is busy figuring out a shortcut there for something!! Remember the cheesecake earlier? Thanks to Leeanne, we were spoilt with a FAT FREE, SUGAR FREE cheesecake ( yeah right!!) and some champagne to celebrate the day!! ( thanks alot, Leeanne!!!)

The finished product! It was a full 7 hours of blending, techniques, grunging, tearing, distressing and just like minded souls enjoying the day together! Thank you, ladies! We still have some kits available for the ladies who asked about buying them. Please contact the shop or send us an email. Enjoy the rest of your week!

to purple or not to purple..........

As scrapbookers our aim is to PRESERVE memories. We buy expensive Acid Free albums, glue, embellishments and spend hours on doing perfect layouts. We treasure our memories. We want to ensure that generations to come will be able to go through the albums and reminisce either with us, or when we are no longer, without us, but fondly thinking of us as we made these pages for them. As a retailer, we try to keep supplies to our clients as affordable as possible. We try and stock "cheaper" substitutes of expensive products to ensure that we can cater to all ends of the market. Recently, though, we have experienced problems with one of the major suppliers to the craft market's double sided tape - one of the most used products in the Scrapbooking Industry. The tape is pulling loose from the photos and cardstock it is adhered to. We have therefor decided to start stocking Purple Turtle Double sided tape, as supplied by one of South Africa's most reputable and leading Wholesalers, The Wholesaler. The tape is more expensive than the other brand, but it guarantees not to pull loose. We will still be retailing the old stock until it is finished at a reduced price, but we will not warrant that it will not pull loose. That way you, as an informed consumer and diligent Scrapbooker, can choose for yourself. You can buy the less expensive version and risk the chance that it might come loose, or you can spend a bit more and rest assured that your memories will stay put! The new tape will arrive at the shop on 15 August. We trust that you will understand that we had to take this decision in you, our clients', best interests! As soon as the issue with the less expensive tape has been resolved, we will start stocking it again. But, we will also be carrying the Purple Turtle range now on a permanent basis. Happy Scrapping and enjoy your weekend!!
