Julle het gevra - en ons het geluister!  We are coming to the Free State!  After more than 2 years of having clients beg us to come and teach in the Bloemfontein area, we are on our way!!

Step by Step Cardmaking Instructions!

Hello all!!  It is time again to show of some goodness created by our talented Designer for the month of May, Elizna Parsons!   Elizna used some of the products in the May Design Team Kit, to create this gorgeous cards  And here are the step by steps to make this beautiful card – just for you!

Tools & supplies needed:

• Scissors, craft knife and cutting mat OR trimmer, double sided tape, liquid glue & glue dots

• Optional: Chalk

• Decorative border punch & pearls

ASSEMBLING YOUR CARD:

1. Use pink cardstock for the card – 30cm x 15cm – fold in half.

2. Cut paper strips for background: top: 14cm x 4.5cm; middle: 14cm x 5cm; bottom: 14cm x 4.5cm.

3. Chalk and adhere paper strips.

4. Cut tag from pink patterned paper: 8cm x 12.5cm. Punch hole for tag & tie twine onto tag. Position tag.

5. Add wording “Once upon a time” {on transparency} to card – tuck in under tag and adhere wording and tag.

6. Cut out transparency clocks. Position on card. Adhere.

7. Stick down scallop border and flowers. Add pearls.

8. With lettering of your choice add the wording: INVITATION. Decorate with glossy accents/paper glaze for a shiny finish.

Mixed Media Canvas Class

Join us on 19 May 2012 at Scrapbook Studio JBay for a Vintage Mixed Media Canvas Class in which you will create a masterpiece that you can use as a Home Décor item for yourself or as a gift for someone special!  We only have space for 6 ladies!  Class will start at 9:30 and we should be finished by 1:30! 

Rolled up Rose Step by Step Tutorial

 

As Scrapbookers and Cardmakers, we all love flowers.  Today Elizna Parsons will share step by step how she made the stunning rolled flowers on her Fairy layout. 

1. Use a die to cut out a flower as shown in this picture.
OR use a scallop scissors and cut out a scalloped "spiral".
I used the 3-D flower die from Sizzix.

 

2. Insert the outer edge of the flower into the quilling tool and start rolling the flower towards you.
If you do not have a quilling tool, just start rolling the paper with your fingers or a tweezer.  Roll towards you.

3. Follow the curve of the paper and continue rolling until you have used the whole "spiral".

4. Your flower will look like this when you have finished rolling and removed the quilling tool.

 

5. Turn the flower "upside down" and place glue from a hot glue gun where shown.
You can also use the green Tombow glue.

Turn the flower around and press all the layers into the soft glue. Hold in place until the glue is dry.
If you use a glue gun you must work very fast in turning the flower around and pressing down, as this glue sets very very quickly!
If you use Tombow Multi Glue (Green Bottle), you will have to be patient and keep your finger on the flower until you see that the flower has settled and doesn't lift when you release

This is what the flower looks like when used on a layout....
I used a pearl as the centre of this flower...you can play around with glitter, bling or buttons to make pretty centres for your flowers.

Tim Holtz Distress Marker Tutorial

 

So, we all know the biggest hype from Winter CHA 2012 was the Distress Markers by Tim Holtz!  Well, we are on our second shipment in the shop – the first time around we could not get our hands on any, they were all grabbed up before we could even price them properly – and this time we made sure we kept a few so that we could show you just how great they really are!  The picture above shows these pens off in full glory – we inked a beautiful stamp with various colours, and just stamped onto plain heavyweight cream cardstock.  Then we misted the same stamp with a mini-mister filled with water without re-inking it, and stamped it again.  Wow.  That is all we can say – the image speaks for itself.

Here we have the finished item and all the products used to create it.  I took a No 8 American Tag, 13#, and completely covered it with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink using my blending tool.

I then coloured one of the Butterflies on the Tim Holtz Butterflies and Moths stamp.  I really love that you can only colour what you want – even though there is more than 1 image on the stamp. 

I stamped it onto watercolour paper once, and then misted it with my water-filled mini-mister.

I stamped it again and the image above is the result I got.  I was very happy with it.

I then outlined the edges of both the tag and the butterfly with the Aged Mahogany Distress Marker.  Just look how it pops!

   

Next I inked up my Prima Almanac Typewriter stamp with the Black Soot Distress Marker.

 

It gives a wonderfully detailed image!

 

I sprayed my tag with my mini mister – love how the Distress Ink reacts with the water!!

Next I punched a few hearts from my left over paper and I coloured them with my Barn Door Distress Marker.  I misted the big one with my mini-mister and it made it slightly lighter than the small one on the left.

I then decided to see how the marker would react to some Perfect Pearls, so I took some Perfect Red Perfect Pearls and just brushed it onto the heart.  It looks really nice and shimmery in real life!

With my last heart, I wet my paper THOROUGHLY and then I just touched the Distress Marker onto the paper.  You can see how the ink “streaked”.  It was a bit light to my taste for this experiment, so I added some more colour with the Distress Marker 

After adding more and more colour, it ended up looking like this!  I have to add here – when you use the Distress Marker on watercolour paper saturated with water like this, it tends to “lighten” your marker.  I forgot to take pictures, but I had to actually make a few marks on some scrap papers to get the pen to be it’s correct colour again.  I loved discovering this – it means that if I need a lighter shade, I can just dip my pen into some water, and when I am done, just get the original colour back by making a few strokes on some paper.

Once again – the finished item.  The “white” shadow you see under the black typewriter is where I stamped with the Picket Fence Distress Marker – I did not dry my tag first before stamping on it, so it did not give me the effect I wanted.  This is not a tag I plan on doing anything more with than use it as a sample – so I will now know what NOT to do and what to do with my Tim Holtz Distress Markers!  These markers are for sale here.  There is a pretty good deal if you buy a whole set – you save almost R300!!!  Get yours now!

Design Team Inspiration – Mother

 

 

As you all know, it will be Mother’s Day in South Africa on 13 May.  We will then celebrate what our mothers mean to us – our biological mothers, but also our spiritual mothers, and women who have had a major impact on our lives.  Some of us are not mothers to our own daughters, but we have input in young women’s lives and we are blessed enough to see them grow and mature into the women they are supposed to be. Our Design Team Kit for May focuses on Women, and is a kit containing mostly feminine papers and embellishments.  Elizna Parsons created this wonderful layout from the products in the kit.  The soft colours are perfect for use with colour photos as well as sepia, vintage or black and white photos.  The design of the layout focuses on the photos and you can add more or less photos – depending on what you feel like!
