Christmas is here!

With Christmas a mere 9 weeks away, it was time to unpack all the brand new Christmas stock and the balance of last year's stash. WOW!! It was like meeting old friends! We had to make a layout!!

We used plain white cardstock as the base, misted with home made mists.

All the stamps used are available from the shop as well as the Rhinestones.

We used some great new border punches for added effect and also some of Tim Holtz' Sizzix dies to dress it up some more! For a complete description of the layout, visit Cariena's blog by clicking here.

First time Scrappers!

On Saturday Donsie had two brand new scrappers - Sue and her mom. They were very eager to come for a class, and arrived punctually at 9:30 Saturday morning, armed with their photographs. They each chose a layout that appealed to them, and Donsie set off teaching them the basics. Much to our surprise, they did so well!! Sue took to it like a fish to water, and although her mom struggled a bit with her arthritis to make the cuts, with Donsie's help a magic layout appeared! Sue's mom based hers on a stunning layout by Gail Dorfling, while Sue chose one inspired by Margie Romley Ascott. We hope to see more of their pages and that they will continue to keep scrapping!

Ella Blue Class

On Wednesday 5 October, we had a few ladies from PE who wanted to do the Ella Blue layout. This class is filled with techniques and although just a single page, involves so many details, that it took almost the whole day to complete. But, as they all said when they left ( some with finished framed layouts), definitely worth it!

They learnt techniques using alcohol inks, UTEE, normal embossing powder, masking, misting, fuzzy cutting, distressing, layering and many more.

This is Tanya's layout - she is a complete novice, so although this was a tough class for her, she did so well!! Her husband even popped in for moral support, and could not believe that she had dressed up her butterfly with UTEE, alcohol inks and more to get it the way it looks here. Here the layout is far from complete, but you can see where it is heading - magic!! Let us know if you would also like to do the class - remember that we do classes one on one as well as group classes!

Male Cardmaking Class

On Saturday we had a cardmaking class ( by popular demand) on how to make cards for men and use your scraps. We have decided to lessen the number of ladies in classes, and rather repeat them. We did this as we felt some of the beginners got lost in translation when there were too many in class. All our classes ( except Cariena's technique class) will now be limited to 6 per class. The technique class is messy, full of fun and not structured, so you can't get left behind. We will still accommodate as many as we can for those classes, so don't panic! Here Louise and her friend of many years from Benoni, Estelle, are hard at work making their cards.

And here Donsie is explaining something important ( obviously!!) to Jeanette while Erica is listening. This was the furthest Erica has driven by herself, and we were very blessed to have her join us! Already an avid cardmaker in her own right, she says she learnt alot of new techniques, and we hope we get to see her more often! The class is being repeated on Tuesday and if you would like to also do it at a later stage, just send us a mail or give us a call. The instructions are also available for those of you who are "self taught"!!

Cards Featuring Kaisercraft Bonjour

When you are busy with a layout, and you finish it, why pack it all away? Why not make some cards while all the papers and co-ordinating embellishments are on your table? These cards are but a few made with the left overs of the Bonjour papers in the kit from the Scrapbook Convention featuring the Kaisercraft Bonjour range. They took less than an hour to make - we just used left over elements of the paper, some pre-cut card bases and some stamps to create these cards. Visit our Facebook page or Cariena's Blog to view the cards in more detail.

Double Page Layout Fauturing Kaisercraft Bonjour Collection

Here is the layout we did at Convention in the Kaisercraft class. It features the stunning Bonjour range. Melissa Kennedy presented the class. Her trademark is LOADS of fuzzy cutting - the first time I did that was in 2009 when she was also a teacher at convention. She actually made us look at the concept very differently, and we tend to use it alot in our layouts these days.

Some close ups of the layout. Lots of layering and paper flowers folded in half and in quarters to add dimension to the page.

We used Spun Sugar Distress Stain to colour the white lace used on the layout. It really is very effective. We sell these and they have a multitude of uses! Watch this space later for some techniques featuring this great product. As promised - this line will be in shop on Tuesday - stock is limited, so come and get yours as soon as you can!

SA Scrapbook Convention Part 1

Hello all!! I have been getting alot of request from Scrappers to showcase some of the layouts we did at this year's convention. For those of you who don't know, every year in September Glenda Viljoen organises a STUNNING Scrapbooking event featuring 6 International teachers from 6 Scrapbooking companies. We then all gather at Emperor's Palace if you like Gauteng, or Spier Wine Estate, if you like the Cape, and we Scrap for two solid days. It is quite something. For those of you who would like more info, here is the link to the website
The layout above was presented by the Glitz Girls. We stock most of their products at the shop - they sell out quite fast as the new ranges comes in, but the one we used was Vintage Muse, and although it is just over 6 months old, we do still have some of the papers and embellishments in stock if you would like to order some. Stock is moving fast, though, after the convention.

The page was a double whammy featuring loads of banners, layering and distressing! The Glitz Girls are stunning, and I promise you, you have never seen such skinny, pretty little things with so many kids!! LOL! They each have about 4, and they all look like models! To find out more about them, visit them here. We are expecting all the new ranges within the next few weeks. Their products are distributed by The Wholesaler, and you can order anything from them and have it delivered to your favourite store, or it will be sent directly to you!!

Here you can see some of the banners we did, as well as the stunning stickers and titles they have available.

Some of the layering they are famous for. They were amazed to see how much double sided tape we use, and how we glue everything DOWN. They like to only glue the middle of the photos down, so that they can insert journaling, tags, embellishments etc. More than one of the teachers commented on how much tape we use - they reckon we keep the doublesided tape industry afloat!! It was quite funny, when you think about it! We sell HUNDREDS of rolls a year, and it is a staple item in a South African Scrapper's stash. At least we know our pictures and layouts will stay put for the generations to come!! I will update the convention as time goes on!
